The growth of Indonesian economic during pandemic
Indonesia is a prosperous and economically prosperous country. This is evidenced by the abundance of natural resources both on land and in water (seawater and freshwater). But since the COVID-19 pandemic began to attack. Indonesia's economic growth has decreased drastically because the Indonesian government has imposed a complete lockdown.
According to World Bank. Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) fell slightly more than expected in the fourth quarter, sending Southeast Asia's largest economy experiencing its first full-year contraction in more than 20 years in 2020 as it grapples with the blow from the COVID-19 pandemic.
GDP shrank 2.19% in October-December compared with the same period a year earlier, data released by the statistics bureau on Friday showed. That was worse than the 2 percent contraction expected in a poll of economists conducted by Reuters news agency, but up from a 3.49 percent decline in the previous quarter. Indonesia's main stock index erased earlier gains after the data was released, having traded up as much as 0.7 percent before the announcement.
Indonesia's economy plunged into recession last year as it struggled to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. The country has the highest caseload and death rate from respiratory diseases in Southeast Asia. For 2020 as a whole, GDP fell 2.07% from a year earlier, the first full-year contraction since the 1998 Asian financial crisis. That was slightly larger than the 2% contraction in a Reuters poll, and roughly in the middle of the government's forecast range for a decline. 1.7%-2.2%. GDP grew by 5 percent throughout 2019.
Indonesia has struggled to find a clear exit from recession, as looser movement restrictions for much of the fourth quarter accelerated the spread of the virus but failed to lure private consumption. COVID-19 infections and deaths continued to rise by record numbers in January, prompting tougher anti-virus measures and raising doubts about whether or not Indonesia can return to growth this quarter.
